COLUMBUS — Yesterday, Sarah Ingles, lifelong Central Ohio resident and public education advocate, officially filed her signed petitions to serve on the Columbus City School Board.

“Since we announced our campaign on January 11th, our team has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of excitement and support from our community. Numerous supporters have told us they're excited by the prospect of adding someone fresh, enthusiastic, and committed to our community to the Columbus City School Board,” Ingles said.

Ingles presented nearly 900 signatures to the Franklin County Board of Elections. She only needs 300 valid signatures to get on the ballot.

Sarah is a union attorney who also represents low-wage and immigrant workers. For the last four years, she has served as the Board President of the Central Ohio Worker Center, and has served on a committee with the Ethiopian Tewahedo Social Services. She is fluent in English and Spanish.

Sarah also volunteers for voter protection and voter registration efforts, and taught at Fort Hayes High School as part of the Marshall-Brennan fellowship. She has worked on healthcare advocacy and fundraising initiatives with the American Cancer Society, civil liberties issues with the ACLU of Ohio, and has been an outspoken advocate for workers throughout Central Ohio.

“I’ve been fighting against book bans since I was a teenager, and will do the same on the Columbus City School Board. I’m excited for the opportunity to put in the work and fight for a high-quality experience for all of our students, staff, and families," Ingles continued.

Sarah is committed to ensuring that the Columbus City School District increases enrollment, increases graduation rates, and creates learning, extra-curricular, and career opportunities for all students who live within and attend the district.

“Where you live in our district should not dictate your experience. Our school board must govern in a way that is equitable and just,” Ingles concluded.
